COMMUNITY FORUM: White Allies and Anti Racist Practice in the Psychedelic Community
Camille Barton and Zoe Bender
Saturday, April 22, 2017 • 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM • Oakland Room

collective liberation project

The digital magazine, Psymposia, recently released a number of articles commenting on the lack of diversity in psychedelic communities. In order to sustain the psychedelic renaissance, it must become more inclusive. In the current political climate, it is important to reflect on how we can play an active role in creating an equitable world free from racism and xenophobia. This workshop is a collective exploration into ideas about ‘power’ and ‘privilege’ in a safe space. We will discuss the importance of these concepts when confronting oppressive behaviours in the world and in ourselves. This is an important framework to build upon in order to demonstrate support to people of colour as a white ally. Some questions we will explore are: what privileged positions do we have and how can we utilize this privilege to support marginalized people? How can we stand with others that face oppression that we haven't experienced? We will use a range of experiential exercises in the workshop including active listening and group sharing. This workshop is open to people of all backgrounds.

Special note: People arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be welcomed into the space because we want to maintain a comfortable container to discuss this subject
